ccTLD’s are locality. They embody all of the relevance of a location, a destination, a national identity.
.US (United States) and .CA (Canada) have a pretty hefty footprint having already been in use for a number of years. Their base was slow growth, and not the result of hype. As greater public awareness takes hold, these extensions’ will likely expand steadily.
I don’t think ccTLD hacks will help the extensions that much. General business use of common generics will.
